The third installment of Pixar’s most successful animated franchise, Toy Story, will be coming to theaters next summer.  I can tell you after having watched the trailer that I will not be in the audience.  I’m not protesting Disney, nor boycotting movie theaters or any other such thing.  The fact of the matter is, I cried like a baby just watching the trailer.

Taylor

Taylor

My oldest, Taylor, was around three when he first saw Toy Story.  I’m not quite sure how many times he saw it.  It seems like every couple of days one of his aunts was taking him off to see it.  Just to watch him, watch the movie, was worth the ticket price.  He had the Buzz Lightyear and Woody the Cowboy figures.  He etched “Taylor” in marker on their feet, just like Andy.  Woody was pretty durable but Buzz was constantly breaking down under the abuse of his many “falling with style” re-enactments.  We took advantage of the toy stores gracious return policy many times.  They’d finally had enough of us after several exchanges and told us that “we’d gotten our money’s worth of out them”.

All good memories right?  Yes they are, but as you can see from the latest trailer, I’m afraid it’s gonna hit a little to close to him for me. You see, Toy Story 3 will be saying goodbye to Andy as he leaves home for college.  The movie is released on June 18, 2010.  We’ll be celebrating Taylor’s 18th birthday and enjoying the last few weeks we have with him before he too leaves home for college.  It’s too much for me to think about in Oct of 2009.  Though I know God will prepare me for it by June 18, 2010 and I will able to watch it with my Andy.
