That we are shocked by the idea that we are saved from God reveals two crucial shortcomings in our understanding. We fail to understand who God is, and we fail to understand who we are. Our view of God is too low, and our view of mankind is too high

Amen! This is a teaching that I think so many miss in the happy-clappy presentations of God.
Confession time — I listen to K-LOVE in the car with my kids. I haev found that it is going steadily downhill. There is a song whose first line is, “He’s not mad at you” and then the chorus tells the listener “You…can come as you are.” Well the chorus is true, but the first line is wrong. He is exceedingly angry and is absolutely right to be angry. After all, He is God and He is holy.
Forgetting this really cheapens the gospel. Why did Christ have to die were it not for the righteous wrath of God?
