I just finished listening to MacArthur talk about Spurgeon yesterday. He admits that Spurgeon was not an exegete but claims that his sermons are worth their weight in gold because they were informed by his Biblical theology.

Here is the complete sermon that excerpt was taken from. I don’t believe Mr Spurgeon was known for his thorough exegesis, but it’s a good read nonetheless.

The longer piece is great! Thanks for that post. I’m still interested, however, in the source on the Spurgeon quote as well. Since he seems to be such an authority in some circles, I thought it would be good point to some “chapter and verse” on this. Do you know what sermon or book it came from?
