A glaring omission from today’s pragmatic church is the reluctance or outright refusal to practice Biblical Church discipline. Here are some stirring posts written by Tom Ascol about a man lovingly disciplined by his church over 15 years ago. After 15 years of continuing in unrepentance, Ascol and the Grace Baptist Church family saw this man restored in repentance and love a few weeks back.
This is an excellent faith-building example of God’s grace at work when a congregation acts in love, and how God works in His own timing and sometimes when we can’t see His hands. This post reminds us that every form of discipline–formative discipline by the teaching of the word and corrective discipline up to removal from membership–every form of discipline–is an act of faith in an all-powerful God who knows how to shape His people.

Praise God. I guess Jesus really seems to know how to run His church [stated with sarcasm]. I rejoice in the way this story ends but even more so I rejoice that this church is obeying it’s true head–Jesus. I pray God’s richest blessings on churches that are willing to by faith deal with sin in the body the way Jesus prescribed.
